AES Spring 2021 Programs

The Adult Evening School program is excited to offer a variety of virtual classes during a mini-session this spring. Please scroll through to view the options and register online (new!). Click here to use our online registration form (there will be options to pay by credit card, redeem a previous class credit, apply your Gold Card, or pay in person). Online payments will be assessed a processing fee of 3.2% or below, based on the type of card used. Participants who register for a class after the class start date should be aware that class costs will not be pro-rated. 

Social Security Strategy

Tuesday, April 13, 6:30-8 p.m.

Cost: $25

What is your Social Security strategy? This class will discuss common but surprisingly complex situations including: how to choose between the hundreds of possible claiming strategies, how to give your Social Security check a government-guaranteed boost, how benefits for one spouse are affected based on when and how the other spouse files, and how being married, divorced, or widowed impacts your benefits. Come to this session and learn strategies to help you maximize your Social Security benefit.

Turbo Charging Your Retirement

Thursday, May 6, 6:30-8 p.m.

Cost: $25

Learn how the financial media has conditioned you to solve your retirement planning obstacles in one way. In this program, we will show you the different ways a person can solve their retirement planning objectives, outside of simply saving more money. You will learn about the tax code, the dangers of bad debt, and the techniques to use to maximize your income distribution.

Spanish

Tuesdays beginning April 13 through May 25, 6-7 p.m.

Cost: $35 

This class is designed to introduce learners to the Spanish language and culture.  Learners will be taught pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary that pertains to their needs/everyday life.

English as a Second Language (ESL)

Wednesdays beginning April 14 through May 16, 6-7 p.m.

Cost: $35

This class is designed to help non-native English speakers improve upon their English skills.  This class will give learners the opportunity to improve upon their varying levels of reading, writing and speaking English as it pertains to their needs/everyday life.

Basic Yoga

Mondays beginning April 19 through May 24, 5:30-6:45 p.m.

Cost: $36

Slower, informative practice. Great for beginners or anyone wanting to refine foundational elements. This class is for anyone who has no experience or limited yoga experience and is interested in rebooting their practice. Learn how to breathe and move safely with good alignment. Wear loose-fitting clothing and bring water and a yoga mat to class. You may also want the following items, which are not necessary but are very helpful with practice: a blanket, two yoga blocks (or cushions or sturdy books), and a yoga strap (or bathrobe sash or old neck tie).

Yoga Basics with Brian Hanlon

Tuesdays beginning April 6 through May 25, 6-7 p.m.

Cost: $40

This is an alignment based, stationary class with a focus on foundational poses. Appropriate for beginners, seniors, minor injuries & those looking for something other than Vinyasa (or simply as a refresher on basic alignment principles of the poses). This class is appropriate for students of all ages, including children above the age of 10.  Variations of postures will be provided so this practice is accessible for varying levels.  This will be a mat based class; having two blocks and a yoga strap will be helpful, but not required.

Yoga Basics with Liz Bradley

Mondays, beginning April 5 through May 24, 7-8:15 p.m.

For students who are familiar with a range of basic postures and are looking to expand their practice, and/or increase strength, agility, and focus. This flowing class links movement to breath and is open to beginners and experienced students alike. Expect to practice some meditation and pranayama (breathing exercises) each class. Loose-fitting clothing, an exercise mat and towel are recommended.

Kickboxing

Mondays, beginning April 12 through May 24, 7:10 p.m.
Cost: $30

Men and women will enjoy this high-intensity, low-impact cardio and strengthening workout. You will learn the proper technique for the basic punches and kicks and develop easy-to-follow combinations that will leave you feeling confident, powerful, and energized! Wear sneakers and have a towel handy for the sweat!

Dance Aerobics

Mondays, beginning April 12 through May 24, 6 p.m.

Dance Aerobics is back with all new routines! The class is a fun-filled, high-energy night of non-stop dancing. Enjoy a variety of dance styles including jazz, hip-hop, and even a little kickboxing incorporated into an aerobic workout. This hour-long class is choreographed to great music and designed to make you sweat.

Line Dance Mix

Mondays, beginning April 12 through May 17, 6:30-7:20 p.m.

Cost: $39

If you’re a newcomer, this is a great way to ease yourself into dance. If you’re experienced, you can fully indulge in each dance’s style. We do a mix of dances, and dance to all kinds of music. The variety is endless, and so is the fun!

Dance Skills & Drills

Mondays, beginning April 12 through May 17, 7:30-8:20 p.m.

Cost: $39

Not just for dancers, but dancers of all genres can benefit. Focus on skills for all kinds of rhythmic and non-rhythmic activities. Improve alignment, balance, timing, coordination, flexibility, and confidence.
