Superintendent Evaluation 2017-2018

In June 2018, the Colonial School District Board of School Directors evaluated the performance of Superintendent Dr. Michael L. Christian. The annual evaluation is based upon the following mutually agreed upon objective performance standards:

Student Growth and Achievement – Dr. Christian will develop a multiyear plan for addressing student performance issues in alignment with the District’s comprehensive plan. Dr. Christian will use multiple data sources to assess student success and growth as appropriate, specific to needs within the District, and as determined annually in collaboration with the Board. Annual or other District performance objectives shall be articulated and clearly achieved under the direction of Dr. Christian.

Organizational Leadership – Dr. Christian shall work collaboratively with the Board to develop a vision for the District; shall display and ability to identify and rectify problems impacting the District; shall work collaboratively with the District Administration to ensure best practices for instruction, supervision, curriculum, development, and management; and shall work to influence the climate and culture of the District.

District Operations and Financial Management – Dr. Christian shall manage effectively, ensuring completion of activities associated with the annual budget; overseeing distribution of resources in support of District priorities; and directing overall operation activities within the District. In addition, Dr. Christian shall provide long-range financial planning that will permit the District to attain educational goals in a fiscally responsible manner and will facilitate the development of a long-range fiscal plan that will be updated annually at a mutually agreeable time between Dr. Christian and the Board to drive the District toward the achievement of educational goals in a fiscally responsible manner.

Communication and Community Relations – Dr. Christian shall communicate with and effectively engage the staff, the Board, and members of the community, clearly articulating District goals and priorities; addressing local and broader issues impacting the District; and building support for District initiatives, programs, and short/long-range plans.

Human Resource Management – Dr. Christian shall incorporate best practices for human resource management and oversight; coordinate staffing, recruitment and other human resource functions. Dr. Christian shall effectively implement the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s new teacher evaluation model.

Professionalism – Dr. Christian shall model professional decision-making processes and ethical standards consistent with the values of Pennsylvania’s public education system as well as that of the local community. Dr. Christian shall additionally work to individually reflect upon his effectiveness within the role, and work to improve effectiveness through the use of professional development literature and activities.

Dr. Christian has met the mutually agreed upon performance standards during the 2017-2018 school year, and the Board has rated Dr. Christian’s performance as Distinguished.
