Health And Physical Education

Student in yoga class at Colonial Middle School

The health and physical education curriculum promotes positive lifelong pursuits with regards to the overall concept of a sound mind and body. The program achieves this understanding through courses designed to increase student knowledge concerning the mental, physical and emotional challenges that students will encounter throughout life. These encounters include the inner workings of the human body, the dangers associated with the use of illegal substances, the dangers associated with making poor relationship decisions and a students own potential for developing and continuing lifelong physical activity pursuits.

Getting fit with elementary running programs

All of Colonial's elementary schools have running programs before or after school. For Whitemarsh Elementary School's Smile Mile, the children work on endurance and pacing through timed runs during gym class, and students can come early twice a week before school to practice together.
